Christine O’Donnell Claims Divine Mandate for Candidacy
October 25, 2010 1:44 PM
ABC News’ Devin Dwyer reports: Delaware Republican Christine O’Donnell says “God is the reason” that she’s running for U.S. Senate and that prayer has played “a direct role in this campaign.”
“I know that God has called me to this,” she told the Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody in an interview to be aired Tuesday on the 700 Club program.
“If I didn’t believe that there were a cause greater than myself worth fighting for, if I didn’t believe that it takes a complete dying of self to make things right in this election cycle I would not be running,” she told CBN’s David Brody. “When you die to yourself you rely on a power greater than yourself, so prayer is what’s gotten us all through.”
O’Donnell, who has been trailing Democrat Chris Coons, also directly credits prayer with helping her narrow the gap with her opponent in some recent polls.
“The day that we saw a spike in the polls was a day that some people had a prayer meeting for me that morning for this campaign,” she said. “So I believe that prayer plays a direct role in this campaign.”
O’Donnell’s outspokenness on matters of faith and her punditry on several TV talk shows during the 1990s, which she has since described as a “ministry opportunity,” have garnered national attention during the campaign.
O’Donnell told the CBN’s Brody that she has no regrets about publicly stating her opinions, but added criticism of some of her statements reflects a “double standard especially when it comes to conservative women.”

She believes in GOD and prays. abc you sure make it sound as if she is a criminal for believeing in GOD and praying. Is it now a crime to do this or do we start serving Obamas god now??

What a freaking dimwit. I guess that her comments are the hail mary pass of conservative politics, when the populace clearly doesn't approve of your platform and lack of intelligence you resort to "leaving it all up to GOD" and "being on a mission defined by GOD". I'm hoping that on the day after the election she finally understands that she should quit with the BS and that the only fund raiser that she should be involved with is the one that most "real Americans" are, the little fund raiser we go to every day called a "a job". Being the village idiot on national TV isn't a profitable profession.

She is digging here own hole..deeper and deeper. She surely is one of the strangest candidates out there. You would have to be of like persuasion to vote for her. Doesn't she have any professional PR people working for her? Good grief is all I can say.

I'm all for inspiration from higher powers, but here's a prayer. God, save us from people who believe they are sent by or speak for you. Amen.

God has called you to experience a crushing, humiliating defeat? Wow, what a jerk...

I don't find O'donnell scary at all it is people like Alvin Greene, Democratic nominee for the senate, a proud democrat who is facing obscenity charges against college girls that scare me.

Christine,
This is G-d.
Please stop talking about me.
I'm sorry I can't support you.
Be gentle and reverent.
Not snarky and sniping.
Be well and try to get a job.
Oh, and remember, leave me out of it.

It is interesting to see a brutally honest person and who they are handled. This is a test on if we want honesty or continue to have serial liars running the country.
She says what is on her mind. We will see how the Christine O'donnell phenomenon plays out.
I prefer this type of talk. It comes across crazy but if you were in a coffee shop having this talk with someone you would respect them and not spit on them.

The reason all democrats are running is one of viciously evil intentions.

God called; he said sorry Christine, but the part of the stupid pretty republican has already been filled!!

Christine ODonnell is violating the 3rd Commandment...Thou shall not take the Lord thy God's name in vain. She is using the Lord's name to serve her campaign and own self interests and this is taking the Lord's name in vain on the highest offer.

Which of the Tea Party GOP candidates is the biggest nutjob? There are so many strong contenders for that "distinction". Thankfully, they should all be footnotes to this election after November 2.

You are running a close second to NPR in credibility with that sleazy, misleading headline. Come on 11/2. Bunch of Hypocrites
Posted by: laura | Oct 25, 2010 2:29:54 PM
How is it that some people see it as a positive thing that their candidate hears voices in her head telling her what to do?
Posted by: Greggw | Oct 25, 2010 2:30:01 PM
'God called me'
Sounds too much like
'God told me to do it'
And the only folks using that one are the ones eventually found 'innocent by means of insanity'...

There are still Americans out there who think our president is Muslim...at this point if that's what some Americans believe it is no longer ignorance; it is delusion.

Rachel said it best when she said "Christine O'Donnell's show on Fox is going to be great!" LOL

This will go down as one of the wierdest races in history. The openly christian candidate was accused of being a witch??Something is not right in the state of Delaware. I do not think Christine is getting a fair shake. Her point on the Separation of Church and State is very valid. The phrase does not appear in the Constitution. The 1st Amendment protects against the State making a state religion. It does not prohibit religious people from influencing the state. Or should only people who believe we got here through random chance over billions of years be the only ones allowed to influence gov't.

Quote: I know that God has called me to this,” she told the Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody...
Before the MSM start their busy spinning to fit their meme that Christine is a crackpot candidate, can we have an unbiased assessment of who she was speaking with and what questions she was asked? It used to be called CONTEXT in Journalism 101.
But why bother? Today's media rather spins a story to fit a meme and it is not uncommon to find a headline that is in stark contrast to the news item.
